Rug Care

rug care

A good quality oriental area rug can provide years of beauty for your home. Like other valuable products, your rug must be properly maintained and cared for. Here are some basic care tips that can help prevent your area rug from deteriorating.

Rug pad:

It is strongly recommended that you use an area rug pad under your area rug. Rug pads hold the carpet in place and help prevent movement of the rug, thereby ensuring that the rug lays flat on the ground and does not slip. In addition to safety, the rug pad acts like a barrier between the hard surface of the floor and the area rug.  This not only provides a more comfortable cushion feel but also helps prevent wear and tear of the rug.

Rotate your rug:

Make sure to rotate your rug every few months to ensure even wear. In addition, if there is direct sunlight on the area rug, rotating the rug will ensure even sun exposure. To help prevent fading of the area rug from sun exposure, use shades, window tints, or other preventative measures.

Vacuuming:

Vacuum your area rug frequently and thoroughly but be very careful when vacuuming your rug. Try to use a gentle vacuum on your rug. We recommend you do not to use the beater bar, if possible. Do not vacuum over the fringes of your rug. Doing so will likely destroy the fringes.

Cleaning:

If there is a spill on your rug, make sure to clean it immediately with a clean white cloth or paper towel and lukewarm water. You may mix a small amount of dish soap in the water, if necessary. Then blot with a clean white towel. Do not rub or scrub the spot, as the dirt will only go deeper into the rug.
